Fedrigoni papers awarded EU EcoLabel
The EU's recognition of environmental excellence has been awarded to the Vellum and Cento papers in Fedrigoni's Freelife range. The papers have won the right to display the EcoLabel Daisy, an important acknowledgement of the company's firm commitment to environmental protection. The European Union EcoLabel is intended to encourage the development of products whose manufacture respects the environment absolutely in every phase of processing. A decision made by the EU on 4 September 2002 regulates how this quality label is attributed to various types of papers, including the ones intended for printing applications.
Very strict procedures
The Eco label is awarded on the basis of very strict conditions and procedures that apply to the entire industrial chain, both upstream and downstream of the production processes, and including distribution. The precise criteria that have to be complied with cover all the different sources of environmental impact, including energy consumption, with the aim of helping it to be reduced. The Freelife Vellum and Freelife Cento papers are good examples: they are produced in Fedrigoni mills that are already certified for their compliance with the international ISO 14001 standard. Although it is strict, ISO 14001 certification is only one prerequisite for obtaining the Eco label. All the raw materials used in those facilities also have to comply with precise criteria of environmental friendliness, which also apply to all the auxiliary materials used in packaging and distribution, such as the pallets and even the sheets of cardboard used as separators between packs.Natural born uncoated
Freelife Vellum and Freelife Cento are papers produced with pulp from renewable forests and highly selected recycled secondary materials.
