| Mody-Clark uses Savile Row Paper |
Mody-Clark was commissioned by the Christina Ong-owned Como Hotels and Resorts group to create the identity for the Cocoa Island resort in the Maldives, the ultimate 'desert island' destination. She also designed the stationery, signage, menus and giftware.
Aesthetically, Cocoa Island's identity is based on evoking the ideal of natural beauty. Seed pods and leaves from indigenous flora were scanned to create background images and then manipulated on to white, soft sheepskin leather - used for the covers of the restaurant, spa and bar menus. 'I worked with an artist called Kate Osborn of Photo Furnishings on the development of the patterns and textures from the scanned objects sent from Cocoa Island,' says Mody-Clark. Husks of coconut palms, harvested from the island, were turned into covers for the guests' resort directory.
'This project remembers that print is a tactile as well as a visual medium,' says Mody-Clark. Fedrigoni's sandy textured Savile Row paper 'echoes the natural textiles of the island, from the sand, which is porcelain soft, to the natural woods and fabrics that surround guests in the resort,' she explains.
